Final Fantasy 8 is a role-playing PlayStation console. It was released in 1999 as the eighth installment of the Final Fantasy series. The game is created in a fantasy world. It looks European but is unnamed. There are a few landmasses in this world. They include Esthar, Galbadia, Trabia, and Balamp. The protagonists of the game are Squall Leonhart, Rinoa Heartilly, Quistis Trepe, Zel Dincht, Irvine Kinneas, and Selphie Tilmitt. All of them have unique characters. Leonhart, for example, is a loner who does not take much off duty to avoid vulnerability. Zell Dincht, on the other hand, is a martial artist who loves hot dogs. Rinoa is a bubbly young woman who is not afraid to follow her heart. All of them except Rinoa belong to a military force called SeeD. The force is founded on futuristic installations known as Gardens

The game has three main modes; The World Map, The Battle Screen, and The Field Map. They all offer unique playing experiences. In the World Map mode, characters can move across the world map on foot, train, airship, car, or Chocobo. The Chocobo is a flightless bird. In the Field Map mode, there are controllable 3D characters on 2D backgrounds. The backgrounds are locations such as cities or forests. The Battle Screen mode has new features and the weapon systems are no longer present. It is a 3D model representing specific locations such as rooms. Turn-based fights between the characters and enemies happen here. It has a collectible minigame known as the ‘Triple Triad.’
